Description

Salisbury steak is a comforting classic featuring tender beef patties drenched in savory gravy, best enjoyed with creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 1 cup beef broth (low-sodium)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp flour or cornstarch (for thickening)

Instructions

For the Patties:

  1. 1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. 2. Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties.

For the Gravy:

  1. 3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a splash of oil. Sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  2. 4. Remove patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. 5. In the same skillet, add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce along with any drippings left from searing.
  4. 6. Bring to a simmer while scraping up brown bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. 7. Mix in flour or cornstarch dissolved in water to thicken until desired consistency is reached.
  6. 8. Return patties to the skillet with gravy and let them cook together for another few minutes.
  7. 9. Serve Salisbury steaks on plates, drizzled generously with gravy alongside mashed potatoes or rice.
