For the Patties:
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
- 1 cup beef broth (low-sodium)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp flour or cornstarch (for thickening)
Instructions
For the Patties:
- 1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- 2. Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties.
For the Gravy:
- 3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a splash of oil. Sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
- 4. Remove patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- 5. In the same skillet, add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce along with any drippings left from searing.
- 6. Bring to a simmer while scraping up brown bits from the bottom of the pan.
- 7. Mix in flour or cornstarch dissolved in water to thicken until desired consistency is reached.
- 8. Return patties to the skillet with gravy and let them cook together for another few minutes.
- 9. Serve Salisbury steaks on plates, drizzled generously with gravy alongside mashed potatoes or rice.
