For the Noodles:
- 9 lasagna noodles
For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 3 cups marinara sauce
For the Cheese Mixture:
- 2 cups whole milk ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
Instructions
For the Noodles:
- 1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a clean surface to prevent sticking.
For the Meat Sauce:
- 3. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat, then stir in the marinara sauce. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
For the Cheese Mixture:
- 4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with one beaten egg, half of the grated Parmesan, salt, pepper, and chopped basil. Mix until smooth.
- 5. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce topped with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- 6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
- 7. Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing to maintain layers when serving.
